Today was our first day exploring Zion. We did the short hike up to Weeping Rock, which was amazing. The girls loved seeing the water raining down. There’s even an overhang you can walk under and the water falls down in front of you. Then we had a picnic down by the stream before doing some more hiking.
Next we did the River Walk hike, which is 2 miles round trip. It’s pretty easy, they have it paved the whole way. There are several spots where you can walk right down to the river, so the girls had plenty of opportunities to get their feet wet.
Not to mention playing in the dirt. My little one is all about getting dirty, and she reveled in it today. I’m not sure her clothes will ever be the same. Rhiannon was a hiking champ. She did the whole trek by herself, with very few complaints. This was a major improvement over the trip to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon in July, where the one hike we did was half a mile and filled with whining. This trip has been an absolute pleasure so far.
Rayney’s method of hiking is full of extremes – she ran, fell, ran, fell, until she finally gave me the sign for sleep and let me put her in the Ergo for a little ride. She fell asleep right away.
The weather has been cold, but clear. The rain held off all the way until evening when we were driving away. Perfect. We are hoping there might be snow on the mountains up here – we are staying in Cedar City overnight. We don’t have a definite plan for tomorrow. We didn’t get to see a lot of Zion, so I am hoping we do a bit more hiking. There are a lot of things to see in the small town of Springdale, just outside the park, so we’ll see how much we are able to do before we have to head home.
