On Friday July 31st and Saturday August 1st at 10:30am both days women around the world joined in the celebration of World Breastfeeding Week by participating in the Big Latch On 2015. In 2013 a global Big Latch On world record was set at 14, 536 children latched. This year a new record was set!
2015 Big Latch On numbers:
14,889 children breastfeeding during the one-minute count
15,336 breastfeeding women attended
36,502 people attended registered Global Big Latch On locations to support breastfeeding.
On Sunday 2nd August, a new social media based event was held. A total of 325 breastfeeding or expressing selfies were shared under the hashtag #mybiglatchon. This virtual event allowed women who could not attend a Big Latch On event in person to be included in the celebration.
“These event builds communities, physical and virtual, one latch at a time. They increase support for all families and help to change global culture around breastfeeding. It is really important that we continue to make breastfeeding in public a normal and supported part of having a child.” www.biglatchon.com
