A study has found that exposure to BPA, a hormone disrupting chemical found in plastic and tin cans, while pregnant can impact the fetuses cancer risk when they mature into adults. The study found that increased day-to-day BPA exposure during development increased the risk for prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is thought to be fueled by increased estrogen levels.
“We believe that BPA actually reprograms the stem cells to be more sensitive to oestrogen throughout life, leading to a life-long increased susceptibility for diseases including cancer.” –Professor Gail Prins, University of Illinois
In the UK, plastic bottles are made of a BPA-free plastic called PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate). This plastic meets all EU and UK safety standards and is much safer than the bottles used in the US.
