This morning we got packed and headed out to Red Rock Canyon for a hike with my Diva/Mamas group. It was awesome to get out into some fresh air, and the weather was absolutely perfect. Most of us are displaced from more nature-friendly parts of the country – the group today consisted of Oregonians, a world traveler most recently residing in LA, upstate New York, Canada, New Zealand, and the Midwest. We traded hiking stories, activism projects, homeschooling, and lots of natural mama survival tips. I love the Diva/Mamas.
The desert has its own beauty, but you do have to drive a bit to enjoy it. Red Rock is only half an hour West of Vegas, and Valley of Fire (another fave of mine) is not even an hour north. The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is just 4.5 hours away, and definitely worth the trip.
After the hike today, we were back into the car and on our way to another nature outing. We have been wanting to see Zion National Park for quite a while, and took the opportunity to come up here since my husband had a 3-day weekend. It’s only about 2.5 hours away. We’re not camping this time, since it gets pretty cold up here at night, but we will get out and do some hiking. With the short days now (ugh!), it was already dark by the time we arrived, so we’ve only had the chance to enjoy the scenery on the drive.
Tomorrow we head into the park for some hiking and exploring. I had hoped to post some pics from Red Rock today, but I am beat, so it won’t happen tonight. Look for them soon, along with the ones I’ll be taking from Zion these next couple days.
