We spent some time today exploring the sights in the towns outside the entrance to Zion. We had lunch in Springdale, and then went back into the park for another round of hiking. I am so glad we did. We went through the tunnels this time, and then to the Canyon Overlook Trail. It was a little steep, but we went slowly. Rhiannon did great – she is becoming a champion hiker.
I carried Rayne in the Ergo backpack for this one – it was too dangerous to have her walking along the trail, and it was her naptime besides. She fell asleep almost right away, but she woke up on the way back down. I think she was a little surprised to see how high up we were, but she just started pointing things out to me and was definitely enjoying it. We even saw a huge Bighorn sheep!
This was an awesome day. Truly awesome. It felt so good to be out there soaking up the energy. Living in a big city like Las Vegas is not where I want to be. I am grateful that we live within driving distance of such awesome displays of Nature. It is rejuvenating.
It was another long day, coupled with a long drive home. Coming out of the pitch black from over the hill and seeing the sea of lights from Las Vegas and the Strip below was certainly a sight to behold. It was beautiful, but it made me a little sad at the same time. Give me a cabin in the woods somewhere… until then, we’ll just have to keep taking these mini-vacations.
