Valentine Ideas for Couples
When women become mothers, it can sometimes put a dent in the romance. Let’s face it – we’re exhausted by the end of the day, often have had little ones hanging off of us for a good portion of it, and are less than enthused about more physical contact with our husbands.
But it is Valentine’s Day tomorrow, so your sweetie would probably appreciate a little extra attention. And since he just wants YOU, it doesn’t have to cost a lot to create a special evening. Start focusing on the evening’s festivities in the morning, and you will be in the proper frame of mind by the time the kids are in bed (or at the sitter’s).
Since I’m all about food: Start by preparing a special Valentine’s Day dessert to enjoy once the children go to bed (early if at all possible). If your partner loves chocolate, you can make a molten chocolate mini cake for each of you. Tiramisu is another easy desert option for you to make for your lovey. If you are not the baking type, you can make a fruit parfait. Create layers with pound cake, vanilla pudding, and fresh fruit to make the parfait. You can finish this off with whipped topping, and maybe some chocolate sprinkles.
Lay out a blanket on the floor of your living room to make it a special picnic for Valentine’s Day. Light candles around your living room to set the mood in the room. You want the lighting to be romantic, so if you can do this with your lights that will work too. Place some pillows around the edges of the blanket that you laid out to give you something to lean against.
Enjoy a romantic movie on your picnic blanket while you enjoy your Valentine’s Day dessert. Open a bottle of wine and relax as you watch a movie that you would not normally get to watch with the children around. Make it something you’ll both enjoy, and that will keep the mood flowing. Die Harder might be on his list, but it doesn’t exactly bolster romance. Unless you’re into that sort of thing…
Slow dance with your Valentine after the movie is over. You do not need to be out in a fancy restaurant to be able to slow dance with the one that you love. I can’t get my husband to dance in public, but if it’s just us, he will usually indulge me. Didn’t you used to have “your song”, the one that was special while you were dating? Find it and have it ready – set the CD or MP3 player to repeat.
Finish your romantic Valentine’s Day by giving each other a sensual massage. You can get massage oil anywhere, and use the special space you’ve created to do the massages. If you do not want to stay out in the living room, you can move into the bedroom to finish off your Valentine’s Day.
Enjoy this evening with your sweetheart. You will probably find that the good mood it creates lasts far beyond this one night.
