Hello, my name is Heather Holm and I am the mother of two wonderful boys, Kwabena and Kwasi. Enshira meaning "blessed" in a language called Twi, is how I feel when able to support you and your family through your beautiful journey of pregnancy and birth. I started out in the financial arena and after my birth experiences had a strong desire to work with pregnant women and their families. My births were so empowering. I wanted to be able to support other women to have the experience they desire. After tons of research a birth doula is how I would be able to provide this support.
After the birth of my son my midwife asked me if I would like to save my placenta? Why sure I thought after learning about all the wonderful benefits. She proceeded to put it in a plastic bag for me and place it in the freezer. Well that is where it stayed. What if I had capsules to take just like my prenatal vitamins? I definitely would have taken it. This wonderful organ with so many benefits and most of them just become medical waste. In the process of deciding to become a birth doula I decided I wanted to also work on learning how to properly handle and store the placenta. So I enrolled in a course to become a certified placenta encapsulation specialist.
I have a B.S. in Actuarial Science and Finance. In my time away from work, I enjoy spending time with family, nature walks, travel and simply enjoying life!
How many times have you heard from someone; I’ve been told I am not producing enough milk. Why are my breasts never feeling full? I don’t think my baby is getting enough milk from breastfeeding. Numerous amounts of postpartum women are confronted with lactation issues after giving birth. Why not try a natural resource? Why not start at the placenta before looking at supplements outside of the natural process of birth? Why not alleviate any concerns from the start? Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to relax and enjoy the breastfeeding experience from the beginning?
For thousands of years the Chinese have turned to the placenta for medicinal use. Traditional Chinese Medicine has been recommending ingesting the placenta for thousands of years to help deal with insufficient lactation. So I ask myself, why not try the natural gift? Why is it that western culture has taken so long to start noticing placenta benefits that many other cultures have been embracing for centuries?
The postpartum period is a state of flux, a time of rebalancing the hormones and eventually returning to a point of equilibrium. There are so many natural benefits to placenta ingestion. It can help with iron levels, help to increase milk production, and maybe even prevent the forming of antibodies and perhaps decline hormonal levels slowly instead of the rapid decrease. Why not try to avoid postpartum depression naturally? In my mind the answer is simple, go for nature’s cure, the placenta.
I look forward to speaking with you and your family about the many benefits of placenta encapsulation!
