Hello! My name is Tara. I live in the heart of Vermont. Since I was a child, I have felt an incredible pull to the postpartum period of a woman’s life. At the age of five, I walked the streets of my neighborhood looking for pink or blue balloons, signaling the arrival of a new baby. I would march up to the front door and present the family with a handmade “Mother’s Helper” card, eventually becoming an extended part of their lives. My life has always teemed with little ones and their pregnant mothers. My mother ran a home day care and Montessori preschool; our home was the hub of the home birthing community; and at the age of six and nine years of age, I was an active participant in the birth of both my sister and brother…My job was to cut the umbilical cord.
I knew from a young age that my life work would involve newborns and their families.
Years later, I earned my degree in Early Childhood Education and soon after became a certified doula and postpartum doula with Doulas of North America. I have given natural birth twice now and can honestly attest to loving every minute of the process! Yet, my pregnancies were challenging due to a rare and debilitating condition known as Hyperemesis Gravidarum (a severe form of morning sickness). This condition took its toll on my body, leaving me severely fatigued from anemia for weeks after the births. I had little idea how to move through this time successfully. Meanwhile…my placentas set idle in the freezer awaiting their time to be planted in the earth.
Due to my long-time interest in the healing power of foods, I was immediately intrigued by the idea of placenta encapsulation. As a qualified Personal Therapeutic Chef, I both understand and appreciate the immense value that nutrient and mineral rich foods have on the overall bodily system. Specializing in creating digestive wellness, I advocate bone marrow stocks, animal organs and other foods that promote healing in the body. So, it makes perfect sense to me for the mother to ingest such a vital organ, as the placenta itself, to be replenished after the arduous work of pregnancy and birth.
Currently, I am pursuing my certifications as a Holistic Nutrition Consultant with a focus on yeast imbalance and damage to the digestive tract and the resultant variety of conditions – particularly food allergies and intolerances. I am delighted to add Placenta Encapsulation to my list of services for families throughout the New England area and look forward to nourishing new mothers from the inside out!!
