PBi's Latest Certified Specialists

Alexandra Orchard - Colorado Springs, CO
"It is one thing to say that placentophagy is helpful for women in the postpartum period, but it is another thing to back that statement up with sound research. I loved the course because it helped me understand the issues surrounding placentophagy as well as how to create placenta capsules using traditional techniques. When I began my work as a specialist, I was surprised to face skepticism and even some criticism. Armed with the research I summarized during training, I was able to gain support and understanding. I was also well prepared for presenting the idea of placentophagy to various groups curious about my services. Jodi has created a training program that is well-rounded and acknowledges that in order to make placenta encapsulation acceptable, we have to educate the public. To do that intelligently, we need to support our claims with sound research. Thank you, Jodi, for working so hard for women, babies and families!!! I am proud to be a part of PBi !"

Wendy Gordon - Portland, OR
"I'm glad that I took Jodi's certification course. She has done an amazing job of collecting what research there is on the benefits of ingesting the placenta and incorporating Traditional Chinese Medicinal methods and philosophies. I also really respect that she has put safety standards in place for all of her specialists so that our clients can feel secure about our services. I'm thrilled to be able to offer this service in the Portland area, and clients are clamoring for it!"

Naeemah Jones - Miami, FL
"I work very closely with midwives, and one of the midwives I work with taught me over a year ago about placenta capsules. She also heard about PBi and shared her information with me to look into the training program. I am very happy that I did because now I know the proper way to prepare the placenta. It is my pleasure to educate new moms about the benefits of placentophagy. I would like to thank Jodi Selander for researching the benefits of placentophagy and overcoming the negative feedback that she came across from those who have told her she could not presume the right to let the public know about this procedure."

Rayne’s Birth Story
by Jodi Selander

My second daughter’s birth three years ago was an amazing experience, thanks in large part to my childbirth preparation classes, my fabulous doula and the waterbirth. My labor was short and intense, but the relaxation skills I learned and practiced in my Hypnobirthing classes made it very manageable.

HypnoBirthing offers women safer and gentler childbirth by blending trust in the female body with the documented effectiveness of self-hypnosis (deep relaxation), guided imagery, visualization, special breathing and tension-releasing techniques. HypnoBirthing teaches expectant mothers to follow the lead of their body and baby and to use their own natural birthing instincts.

The water was truly beneficial as pain reliever, coping mechanism, and I believe it helped me avoid any damage, as I did not tear at all as she was born. I rented a birth tub, which was much better than trying to labor in a regular bath tub. A birth tub is so large that you can be completely buoyant, which relieves a lot of the pressure, and makes it easier to change positions to get comfortable. You can find out about all the benefits of birthing in water from Waterbirth International.

My postpartum experience was also wonderful, due in large part to her placenta capsules. I recovered so much more quickly that I was honestly shocked at how good I felt, and at how much energy I had. I did not feel like I had just had a baby, I just felt completely normal. It was fabulous. I did the placenta encapsulation myself, but you can also find a Placenta Encapsulation Specialist in your state to prepare the placenta for you.

Childbirth can, and should, be more than just a physical experience that women endure. With the right tools, preparation and mindset, birth and the postpartum recovery can be a truly intimate and transforming journey.
