My name is Corinne Hilton. My journey to placenta
encapsulation began, in many ways, when I was pregnant with
my first baby. I was filled with wonderment as I watched my
belly grow each month. I knew I wanted to be an active
participant in my pregnancy and birth. I prepared for the
birth by taking a childbirth class with my husband, read
many books, practiced yoga, and hired a doula. Our natural
birth in the hospital was positive and affirming experience.
The birth taught me a lot about myself and was a great
beginning into the challenging role of motherhood. My son
however had severe digestion issues. He was in pain and
cried for hours each day for months. I struggled to take
care of myself as I learned how to help him. Our experience
created the perfect recipe for postpartum depression, which
I subsequently experienced when he was a few months old.
For the births of our next two children, we decided to hire a knowledgeable
and experienced home-birth midwife. Experiencing the midwifery model of care
deeply enriched my life. These two experiences were true celebrations of life,
strength of character, and the powerful creative energy that surrounds birth. My
second postpartum experience was much better than my first but I still felt
tired, overwhelmed, and blue for a few weeks after the birth. I was determined
to do some thing different after the birth of my third baby... placenta
encapsulation!
I am grateful for placenta encapsulation and have found the benefits to be
extremely helpful. I was very tired after the birth of my last child, trying to
keep up with two active kids and a newborn. Taking my placenta capsules
fortified and strengthened me during a joyful but stressful and exhausting
postpartum. I continue to take them when I am overwhelmed or feeling down.
I am honored to provide placenta encapsulation to women in the Washington
D.C. Metro area. In addition to encapsulating placentas, I am a certified Birth
Works childbirth educator and birth doula.
